REIMAGINING THE PRACTICE

(20 hours CEUs / towards 300 hour module)

with Sadie & Maryellen

Identity as a Teacher - Saturday, November 21, 12-2pm

  • Examine the ways we apply our language to cues and ask if it’s creating a space of inclusivity, or if there is an assumption of somatic knowledge or physical mobility simply in the words we choose. Explore cueing habits that honor your individual strengths as a teacher as well as create clear instruction for a more conscious space for all. Establish rationale and purpose behind your sequencing and gain confidence to uncover your niche as a professional in the field.

  • Homework: 30min subtle body sequence

Student-Centered Teaching - Sunday, November 22, 12-2pm

  • Build foundational lessons that are approachable and effective for a range of abilities. Adapt your skillset to promote inclusive options for beginner students and engaging learning opportunities for seasoned practitioners. Welcome to anyone eager to rediscover the roots of their yoga practice.

  • Homework: outline a foundational yoga series

Prop Exploration  - Saturday, December 5, 12-2pm

  • Sensory feedback from a prop is a great tool for brain-body mapping. While language can be essential, the essence of our yoga experience is not spoken, but embodied. Learn how to organize movement and cue direction with sensory feedback and touch. Studio props may be rented.

  • Homework: 30 minute prop-focused sequence

Functional Conditioning - Sunday, December 6, 12-2pm

  • Awaken underused and overused muscles by intertwining stability, mobility, and progressive loading drills into healthy movement patterns. Evolve your mat practice through anatomically driven refinement and gain the knowledge to adapt traditional vinyasa sequencing that weaves in the benefits of functional movement.

  • Homework: 30 minute targeted muscle group sequence

Inversion & Chaturanga Adaptability - Saturday, December 19, 12-2pm

  • Many of the shapes and movement transitions we rely on as a skeletal structure to a yoga asana practice are often inaccessible.  In this module, we will learn the contraindications of an inversion and push up sequence, and how to empower your students with alternatives so that everyone may flow together in a class, regardless of physical access.

  • Homework: 30min sequence without an inversion or chaturanga dandasana

Chair: Adapting your flow in and around a Seat - Sunday, December 20, 12-2pm

  • Understand the foundations of a chair yoga practice and how to sequence in, around and on a chair, adapting your teaching for those who may use this form of stability.  Workshop is designed for both teacher and student. Yoga chairs may be rented.

  • Homework: 30 minute chair yoga sequence

Energetic Adaptability - Saturday, January 16, 12-2pm

  • Students will learn the anatomy of breathing, introduction to breath assessment and intervention and incorporating breath work into sequencing.

  • Homework: 30min breath practice, based on a case study.

Teaching Privates - Sunday, January 17, 12-2pm

  • Students will learn the fundamentals of teaching private yoga sessions, bridging the gap between yoga knowledge and the individual.

  • Homework: 30min private session and home practice plan, based on a case study.

Are you feeling stuck in your offerings as a teacher or your understanding of the practice as a student?  Do you crave adaptability?  During this advanced teacher training series, Maryellen and Sadie will segmentally walk you through a refinement of your teaching tools, allowing you to expand your offerings, empowering all members of your classroom community to participate in the flow, regardless of past experience or physical differences. Designed for both the teacher and student, expect to think critically about the movement practice, engage in discussion, and receive feedback from completed homework assignments based on the application of knowledge gained. Classes will be 2 hours long on Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 12-2pm; if you are unable to attend at the time of our training, you may access the replay for a week.

This series is conducted completely via Live Stream. Hours may be used as Yoga Alliance CEU’s or 20 hours toward our 300 Hour Advanced YA Teacher Training.

PRICING:

$40/workshop or $225 for series
